Option One: Leverage your social media presence
The first way that you can sell your art online is via social media. You post your art to Instagram or TikTok, and invite people to message you with their interest! You can send them a PayPal invoice that they can pay with any credit card, and PayPal will help you create a shipping label—it’s quite a beautiful system.
Option Two: Join your fellow artists on Etsy
The second way is to list your work on Etsy, which is the most conventional way to sell handmade stuff, but you can also use other online marketplaces, like eBay or Amazon. You will have to pay a fee to the hosting service, but there are protections for both the buyer and the seller. They’ll also help with shipping and customer service. They take a percentage of the sale price, and sometimes charge a monthly fee as well.
Option Three: Market your work through prints
The third way to sell your work online is to use a full service printer. This will work if you have designs that you want to sell as prints. Some of these services will create all sorts of products with your designs, like stickers, umbrellas and shower curtains. All you will need is a high-quality image and the service will do everything else! Although, you will definitely have to pay 80-90% of the retail price for this service.
Option Four: Ditch physical galleries
The fourth way you can sell your art online is to sign up for an online art gallery, like Saatchi. These services help artists sell their fine art, and help collectors find art they will love. Online art galleries will take a percentage of the sales, usually 30%-50%.
Option Five: Do it on your own!
The fifth way you can sell your art online is to build your own personal commerce website. You can connect your site with credits card processors, and shipping and postal services, and you won’t have to share the proceeds with anyone else!
